Monday 30th January – walk ***** Waldringfield circuit – sunny and mild with a good breeze.

With wall to wall sunshine milder than of late and a good breeze from the WNW I was tempted to go windsurfing but with my foil out of action and a poor tide on the River Orwell I decided against it, so Mag and I went on a top walk instead. With exercises done I packed a picnic and we drove over to park at Waldringfield church arriving at midday, being early for lunch we decided to walk to the left first, inland away from the River Deben. It was a good day for birds starting off with a pair of what we think were Field Fares in a crab apple tree having a right old feast, we also saw loads of hedge row birds including several sorts of tits, robins, sparrows ,jackdaws, buzzards, black birds and then when we reached the Deben there were loads of waders including several avocets:) We walked through quiet country Lanes leading down to the Deben with it being very quiet, just how we like it:) We past the small nature reserve with teal on the lake with three tubes of reeds on poles which we were not sure what they were, traps or nesting boxes? Reaching the Maybush pub which smelt of cooking fat:( we found a bench sheltered from the breeze and stopped for lunch watching several avocets wading out by the island. Well rested we continued past the small farm reservoir past the hall where we saw loads more field fares and back along the Quiet Lane to our van via a walk around the church yard which was full of snowdrops and yellow aconites and back home for a cuppa. I then headed down to Felixstowe dock view point to check out the sunset, sadly it was not as impressive as yesterdays! Top day :)

PS - had one of todays pics chosen as a Editors Pick on the BBC but sadly it was not used on the TV :(
